Scandal Season 5, Episode 6
“Get Out Of Jail, Free”
Posted by Sage
The investigation into President Grant’s conduct rages on, and Sally Langston is truly living her best life. Lovers of Liberty, the smell of blood is in the air and wolves are circling. On to the gifs.
“It’s Impeachment Week here at the Liberty Report, and boy do we have a treat for you.” Sally is filled with barely restrained glee at Fitz’s misfortune, and I’m kind of with her.
“Just remember Senator, if there’s anything there that makes you uncomfortable, you can just say ‘I don’t recall.'” Mellie is being coached on her testimony, and promised that the committee will go easy on her.
“So before Miss Pope made that announcement, you had no idea.” “No idea at all.”
“It’s an ambush.” The committee has a signed affidavit from Jeanine Locke, the campaign staffer who took the fall for Olitz almost two years ago. They’re confronting Mellie with it in the middle of the hearing.
“I was about to go on TV and say I never slept with the president, when the First Lady approached me…” “Keep reading.”
“I don’t recall.” “WE SEE YOU, GRANT FAMILY.”
“That might save me from having to testify, but what about Olivia?” Fitz could be smart and invoke his Executive Privilege, but he continues to think with his dick. Much to the dismay of the rest of his team.
“We called you here to discuss a wedding. Our wedding.” If Fitz and Olivia get married, Olivia won’t have to testify. But she’ll also be MARRIED. To Fitz.
“Passport, ID, all ready to go.” ELISE IS VISITING ROWAN IN PRISON.
A guard leads Rowan to the lobby and stabs him. Rowan chokes him out with his own nightstick.
“Have you stopped to consider how insane this idea is?” Yes, marrying Fitz IS insane. You see what’s happening to the last woman to make that mistake.
“I MARRIED A WHORE.” Cyrus took one for the team, why can’t anyone else?
“Okay. We’ll find another way.” Cy is going to have a stroke.
“You were actually our second call. Do you know an Elise Martin?” Elise was the only other person to visit Rowan in prison besides Jake. Jake does not like this news one bit.
“Don’t lie to me.” Jake cocks his gun and aims it at Elise.
“I’m here to kill him.” YAY, you can still be friends.
“This should be good.” The hearings are going miserably for the Grant camp and Sally is getting off so much on it.
“We’re trying to avoid perjury.” “Or worse.” OPA is back in business, and even Abby is there! Feels like old times.
“Most importantly, he is freaking hot.” I don’t want to hear video Jeanine or anyone else compliment Fitz ever again.
The committee calls Huck by his civilian name, Mr. Munoz.
“It was Harrison.” “And he’s dead – that’s great!” OPA blames the video leak on Harrison, cause he’s not there to argue about it.
“We’re all going to hell.” They’ve been through worse.
“I’ve been attacked….My life is in danger.” Rowan calls Olivia from his hospital bed and begs her sympathy. She hangs up on him.
“You’re probably the most discreet person in the country.” “One of them.” Susan Ross visits David Rosen to find out if there are legal obstacles to resignation. “I want to quit my job as Vice President of the United States.”
“Don’t you feel weird? Eleanor Roosevelt had sex in here.”
“This isn’t traffic court, it’s the US government.”
“And if I get married…what in the hell do you think this is?” LIFE WITH FITZ IS ITS OWN PRISON.
Quinn visits Rowan to tell him she won’t help him either. WHY WOULD ANYONE.
Olivia walks into Fitz’s bedroom and finds rose petals, candles, and Fitz on the balcony in a tux. God, I hate him so much.
“This is my do-over. I get it, Liv, why you weren’t crazy about the marriage idea.” He gets down on one knee…
“Fitz, please get up.” Olivia moves to leave.
“This is not what I wanted…not this…not some fake storybook romance.”
“Can you honestly stand there and tell me that you think I honestly wanted to do this? Nobody wants to do this. No man ever wants to do this.” *seethes*
“You’re not ready. And you know what I think? You never will be.” But I thought you DIDN’T WANT TO MARRY HER ANYWAY, FITZ. Don’t you guilt her like this.
“You think I’d be okay being married?” Olivia calls her ex to gossip about her current boyfriend’s proposal. Locate your sensitivity chip, girl.
“I need to know what to do. You’re who I talk to.”
“My heart. It’s behaving erratically.” Rowan is faking arrhythmia so he doesn’t have to go back to prison. He’s sure he’ll be killed. That’s a pretty nifty spy trick though.
“I can make it so it all goes away…I know everything about every last member of that committee.” Of course Rowan has the power to stop the hearings in their tracks.
“I am out. I am out of my house, out of my marriage, thanks to you.” Mellie would do a favor for Olivia why?
“If I testify, everything changes.”
“I despise you.” She asks Mellie to get Rowan released. “You know what I can do, Mellie. You know what I’m capable of.”
“Damascus Bainbridge, that is his name.” “His name is Eli Pope. He’s my father.” Oh, RIGHT. Olivia doesn’t know about the mysterious donor who blackmailed Mellie.
“What kind of intelligence agency kills jurors?”
“Then why did you think he threw me out?” “I didn’t know.”
“Who else has he done this to? Who else has he hurt? Do you even know?” “He killed your son.”
“Let me see the ring.” I knew Olivia would cave. At least Fitz has his shirt off, I guess.
“Okay. No wedding dress, no flowers, and no vows. And I’m keeping my name.”
“Don’t you need me for anything. Don’t you ask me for anything. That’s his job.” Yes, Jake, YAS.
“What’s the plan?” “Union Station, 3 o’clock tomorrow.” And other famous last words…
“I get Teddy. It’s a non-starter.” Mellie is going to get everything she wants out of this divorce negotiation.
“I am a lawyer. You are a lawyer. I think we’re covered.”
“I get the foundation and Saturdays, and you get to marry your mistress. It doesn’t get any better for you than that.”
“I said there is nothing left for you to take.”
“How do you do that? How do you talk yourself into believing anything you want to believe?…What kind of messed-up cognitive processes go on in that tiny little mind to make all that happen? Do you think it’s scientific? Did you get it from your daddy?” MELLIE.
“You have blood on your hands.” “In an effort to protect YOU….I would still have my dignity if it wasn’t for you. I would still have my career if it wasn’t for you.”
“I wouldn’t have forced myself to stomach you and your disgusting father lying on top of me. I would have had something, been something, DONE something. I wouldn’t have wasted 20 years propping you up.”
Olivia’s testimony is looming and everything hangs in the balance.
“There are no legal impediments to your stepping down.” Susan can walk away any time she wants.
“What about a wine cooler? Have you ever had a wine cooler?” “I have sisters, so yes I have.” I want to have regular Bartles & James nights with David Rosen and Susan Ross.
“The president’s behavior is disgusting. I’ll just say that.” And you can say that again.
“You can’t prosecute a man for sleeping around. We’d have no presidents.”
“The only man in this country who you can prosecute for sleeping around is Fitzgerald Grant.”
“The people in this town who worry me sick who make me fear for the survival of this democracy is the ones who think they’ll make great presidents.” David believes in Susan, and honestly, I’m a little verklempt.
“Have you selected a Chief Of Staff?” The First Lady train is leaving the station, and Olivia’s got to decide whether she wants to board, oh, right about now.
“Please hold for Senator Grant…” Mellie calls Olivia, but WHY.
“I hope you don’t mind the aisle, because I’m a window guy.” Jake finds Elise at Union Station, but she’s already been taken care of.
“Olivia Pope? Is Miss Pope in the building?” Abby returns Betsy Ross’s ring to Fitz. Every member of the committee is handed a folder filled with evidence of their transgressions. Olivia is meeting Mellie in what I’d like to call “their” tunnel.
“I had a realization about you…all these years I’ve spent hating you…you are not my enemy, you are my freedom. You are my white knight, my challenger, my push to greatness…you are going to make me President of the United States.” YES, MY GIRLS. The investigation is dropped. Mellie is RENEWED.
Because she did what Olivia asked and freed Rowan. With the help of Tom, the secret service double agent. Mellie is now in bed with the men who killed her eldest son.
THE COST, you guys. What more must my sad queen Mellie Grant endure before the Oval is hers? Sound off on “Get Out Of Jail, Free” in the comments.
Gillian says
First, this was all YES, and so much of it. I love you.
Second, I never would have predicted that Jim Halpert gif would feel so representative of my feelings about any nice thing said about Fitz ever. Bless you.
