“The Surprise Party”
Smash 2×10
Can we all agree upon the fact that two episodes of Smash in one week is just TOO MUCH? Smash aired on Tuesday for the last time this week and then aired another episode in its new Saturday time slot, where (surprising no one) it hit a new series low in the ratings. I mean…who stays at home on a Saturday night to watch television?
Oh, wait. I do.
To the gifs!!
“I haven’t gotten it right yet.” Speaking for the viewers right off the bat, Tom.
“Apparently.”
Ivy, I know you are mad at Tom for casting your mom, but you could at least TRY and respect your director. Oh wait. That would imply Smash thinks directors are worth respecting. My bad.
“Your son is visiting colleges without you and having the time of his life.” Julia, stop pretending you care about Leo.
“IT’S TECH!!” Oh, we’re back to that as an excuse for everything again, are we?
Brooklyn Jimmy and Karen making out in a wardrobe closet DURING REHEARSAL. #professionals
“Cant wait to get out of here and get drunk.” #gpoy
PEOPLE BITCHING ABOUT HAVING TO WORK IN A BROADWAY SHOW. I cannot.
“Call Liza.” I love that Tom just randomly has her number.
(Devastated I couldn’t find a gif of this, so this will have to suffice.)
WHAT IS THIS HIT LIST SONG? It sounds like “Call Me Maybe” meets Taylor Swift meets the crappiest Disney Channel musical ever.
I still have no idea what Hit List is about.
“How would you fix it?” I’mma gonna let Loki answer this one:
“You’re not asking me to be a dramaturg?! You know my feelings about THAT.” And we’re still using the term “dramaturg” incorrectly, Smash. LOOK IT UP.
“You are needed in wardrobe again.”
(Except it is.)
Karen: “I’ve been thinking.” Brooklyn Jimmy: “You shouldn’t do that.”
Does the guy who play JFK have a NAME? It’s their CAST MATE and they just refer to him by character name all episode.
“I just wish Jimmy were here.” Because I just love him so much.
“Was it like that for you?” Julia, you are eternally clueless. And not in an adorable way.
LIIIIIIZA! With a Z!
“What’s happening? Why is she coming over here?!”
Is the Bombshell team combusting again? I will give Smash this: they have nailed the dialogue for Michael Riedel.
“Ivy Lynn, sit down.”
“Sorry…Liza Minnelli.”
LIZA IS SINGING. I was half expecting her NOT TO, considering how many Broadway Vets the show has cast and not allowed to sing.
“Ivy, look I brought you Liza!” (Okay, it IS a rather awesome birthday present. Well done, Tom.)
“Karen you know I care about you…” #ugh (No really…is there gold in her lady parts? I DON’T GET IT, DEREK.)
“I’m sort of seeing someone…Jimmy actually.”
“We’ve been too hard on Tom.” THEN CALL HIM. DOES NO ONE HAVE A PHONE?
Tom stumbling upon Ivy’s super secret birthday party.
“If I can’t be famous, I’m a nobody.”
That is actually a line of dialogue from Hit List.
The book for Hit List is terrible. TERRIBLE.
“OH GOD, THAT’S ENOUGH!!” Derek speaks for the viewers once again.
“I thought you were more of a man. I thought you both were.”
POOR TOM. He just want to be friends with everyone. But no one wants to hang out with the Boss.
“Karen’s nothing if not a professional.” Tee hee. I am sure she will take her part being downsized QUITE well Derek. Bwah ha ha!
We don’t have to call it dramaturg, you can be a consultant.” ACTUALLY THE TERM YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS “SHOW DOCTOR”. But “creative consultant” would be acceptable.
“If you feel something, you can tell me.” Oh, just do it already.
“We both have baggage, I’m willing to go slow if you are.” Dear writers, PLEASE stop ripping off Rent.
Yes. A date out in public. At midnight. It’s a step, I guess?
Karen finds the drugs. Yet says nothing about it.
During the final montage, I desperately wanted Derek to be waiting for Tom when he came home. #SmashSlash
DEREK AND IVY. It was very Mr. Big of him. Too bad he’s only doing it because he was rejected by Karen and her diamond filled lady parts.
And that’s it for this week! Come back next week as Sage gif-caps 2×11 where “As Tom and Julia race to ready “Bombshell” for previews, Tom’s eagerness to prove himself may not be the best thing for the show. An on-stage mishap forces Ivy to make an important decision, while tension rises at “Hit List” as Karen becomes suspicious of Derek’s motives towards her. ”
Till then, Liza bids you adieu…
