I hope you’ve been enjoying Harry week so far! We’ve made it to the best of the best, the crème de la crème (and yes, that is a hint at one of the looks below). As I mentioned in Part One, selecting (and ranking) the twenty best looks was quite the feat for me, but most of these top ten have been strong contenders since I first saw them. It’s like the age-old question: How do you know when you’re in love? You just know.
10) London 2: Gucci
Can you believe we were hlessed with a cheetah print velvet suit? I know, neither can I.
This fabric is a little thick and veers a little furry with the print BUT I LIKE IT.
I fucking loved it, too, Grimmy.
And in case you were wondering, that’s not just sass from Harry’s best friend; his stylist confirmed the inspiration for this look.
Praise be.
9) Bologna: Gucci
Okay, I know I dedicated a whole day to pink, but I had to save this look for the top ten. I love everything about it. Taking such a masculine silhouette, with these broad shoulders, and putting the body of the suit in such a bright pink? Genius idea and gorgeous execution.
Side stripe!
I feel personally victimized by both the fact of the contrasting lapels and that it’s pink on pink. He knows all my weaknesses, guys.
I gotta give it up.
8) NYC 1: Gucci
Look. At. These. F L A R E S.
I mean.
Honestly, what blows me away the most about the exaggerated flared legs is that he can still move really well in them.
The flares are incredible, but they’re not the whole story with this look (which is incredible). The contrast of black velvet on the lapels is stunning.
And you have this beautiful print. Harry Styles Fashion Archive shone some light on the meaning, “Harry went for a white suit with a subtle black flower print. The inscription on the suit writes ‘Memento Mori,’ the Latin words signifying the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality. The second inscription writes ‘Jardin d’Hiver’ which translates to winter garden.”
Harry has a lot of fun with fashion but he’s also deliberate and thoughtful so I don’t think it’s a stretch to interpret this as a specific choice to remind himself to stay humble and not take his success for granted. I also think it’s plausible that the choice of this fabric was a way for Harry to honor the anniversary of his stepfather Robin’s passing away.
This look really is more than the sum of its exquisite parts and that’s why it more than deserves a place in the top ten.
7) Copenhagen: Gucci
Hello! Can I interest you in a glittery light blue lurex jacquard suit with pink crystal trim?
This is some Hans Christian Andersen fairytale mermaid prince realness right here.
I love it. Good fit, good silhouette, he moves well in it, and the pink crystals are the perfect complement to that icy pale blue along with the dreamy self-tie blouse.
6) Munich: Calvin Klein
At first glance, simple, gorgeous purple suit, right?
But wait, what’s this? A hint of sun orange on the back of the legs?
That’s right, Harry wowed us in Munich in my personal favorite Calvin Klein look of the tour. And it’s not just the surprise color combo, it’s the surprise of these bold shades together that really elevate the look from interesting to wow.
Paired with a simple black tank top to let the suit speak for itself, which it does. In volumes.
5) Santiago: Saint Laurent
Are you sitting down? Because we’ve made it to Santiago, where Harry paired slim black trousers and a white tank with this gorgeous green long-sleeved overshirt.
The green is a total stroke of genius; he looks like a mermaid. Truth be told, I can pay no higher compliment.
God, look at those sparkles in motion.
Actual photo of Harry basking in my love for this look.
3) Amsterdam: Harris Reed
I cannot overstate of the impact of the first Harris Reed look that Harry wore in Amsterdam. Everyone paying attention quite rightly lost their damn minds over this. Instantly iconic.
From the ruffled blouse to the silk under flares, Harry is wearing this look – it’s not wearing him. That’s why this works.
Speaking of the blouse, let’s get a closer look at the tiers of ruffles. God, that’s gorgeous.
Why is this so endearing?
I’m honestly blown away by this look.
3) Paris: Saint Laurent
Okay, listen: I know this is all subjective, but you really cannot argue with this look, can you? Once again, a traditionally masculine feeling silhouette made in a sparkly fabric and now paired with a ruffled blouse. This is just undeniably well executed.
I just… I really love the blouse, okay.
And this sparkly woven fabric is to die for.
This makes for perfect stagewear since you can really see the sparkles in the movement from afar.
Yes, I could have linked a performance video to prove that point but instead I invite you to enjoy peak Harry and his pure delight at the Paris crowd’s pronunciation of pamplemousse.
One final note on this look: Harry only wore Saint Laurent three times during the tour (Singapore, Santiago and Paris) and all three looks made the top twenty. I know he has a great working relationship with Gucci, but I would love to see him in more Saint Laurent in the future.
2) Glasgow: The Scotland Kilt Company
Before I descend into complete incoherency about this ensemble, I would just like to let you dear readers know, if you don’t already, that the last time Harry played Glasgow, an audience member asked where his kilt was and he replied, “Where’s my kilt? I’m saving it for later, darling.”
UM YEAH HE DID.
I kid you not, “Harry Styles in a swishy kilt is life changing” is the only note I wrote down for this look.
All I want to do is stare at it.
HE DID THAT.
1) London 1: Gucci
LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT: Here she is, London 1, your number one look of the tour.
Honestly there was no competition for the number one spot. This is it. This is everything.
He absolutely killed it on stage in this look.
This is definitely my fave of the cropped jackets. I love how the crystal and bead embroidery make the pink velvet look even richer.
I’ll be honest with you, I haven’t seen The Greatest Showman, but with photos and videos from this show I feel like I’ve seen my greatest showman. Harry is talented at a lot of things, including songwriting, but I think what we’re really celebrating this week is how he uses fashion to enhance his already ample stage presence and no other look from this tour can top London 1 for that.
Did your favorite look make this list? Do you agree with the rankings? Let us know in the comments! And remember, we still have one more post tomorrow to wrap up!
Gillian says
Oof, you know what? This week of posts – and your Top 20 2-parter especially – has made me come to a surprising (maybe even difficult?) realization about myself. My initial reactions to and appreciation of his more absurd/flashy looks (basically, all the ones that wouldn’t look out of a place at a Willy Wonka look-alike contest for mermaids) have been utterly in line with my general love for ridiculousness. But the ones that really stick with me and draw me in now that we’re farther removed from the concerts themselves are the more subdued ones. He’s so good at selecting almost-ordinary looks and that have juuuuust enough playful tweaks that they, on Harry especially, become anything but. Those boisterous packed-to-the-(mermaid)-gills LEWKS pack a hell of a punch. But the NYC & LA 1s and Parises and Amsterdams and Buenos Aireses keep you down for the muh fuh count.
